Oscar de la Renta was truly an inspiration. That word - inspiration - however, feels like an understatement. The joy he brought to my life - women's lives around the world - through his designs is a kind of joy that cannot be described in words. I had dreams about wearing an ODLR gown. To, perhaps, a lavish gala that called for none other than a piece of that magnificence.
His designs represented a life I wanted to live - full of glamor and understated extravagance, full of giggles and utter happiness, full of sparkling costume jewelry and my very own pair of Cinderella slippers. I think he did this for more people than just me. The life you wished to live in Mr. de la Renta's designs might be different than mine. But the common thread in all of our dreams is the man behind them.
A consummate gentleman. He brought nothing but good to the world. I'm truly saddened by the loss of such an incredible human being. He will forever live on through the legacy - an iconic one in the fashion world - he left behind .. and, of course, in my tireless dreams of stunning ball gowns and glass slippers.
My thoughts and prayers to all those close to the icon that was Oscar de le Renta.
