Recipe for Perfect Fall Layers

Layering and fall go together like peanutbutter and jelly. Or, for those of you who despise jelly like yours truly, you might say Monica and Rachel .. Ross and Rachel?

Fictional characters aside, layering and fall are soulmates. Abandon-your-dream-job-in-Paris-soulmates. Real deal, true love. And, like most things, the two can be broken down into a formula. I think most things can be broken down into formulas .. this one, however, definitely can. Here's some go-to recipes when putting together layered outfits this fall!

Fear no more, your striped tshirts can live through the fall. A cause for celebration, really. I like to be reminded of coastal Rhode Island when the temps drop below 50 and snow is in the near future. You may sense sarcasm, but alas, I was being completely serious. Striped tees are the perfect way to do this, so don't pack yours up. Pair this set of layers with light wash denim, ballet flats if you're feeling extra prim and proper, or dirty white Converse if you're leaning towards your inner angsty teen. Either way, you look like you just got off a boat in Maine in the middle of October. What other look could you have possibly been going for?

I kind of love the contrast of this pairing. You're probably a hipster - a good one, not an obnoxious one - who came home to the suburbs for a weekend in the fall and could only find your high school brother's pea coat when searching the coat closet for a piece suitable enough for the shocking temperature drop. Or maybe it's your pea coat. Either way, dark wash denim (black .. worn out at the knees .. maybe a rip or two?) and tasseled loafers tie the look together. I suppose those white dirty Converse wouldn't be out of place here .. if you were, coincidentally, still channeling that angsty teen within.

Lessons learned : Layers - good. Brother's pea coat - good. Dirty white Converse? Err .. good. But maybe bad - if, just maybe, you dislike angsty teens.

xx MGR
