I am a strong believer in reading if you can recall .. I try to always read before going to bed just to clear my head. I read on my Kindle Fire and I say everyone should get one because it. is. life. changing. The best thing about Kindles is that when you finish the first book of a captivating trilogy at 11:00 on a Monday night and just need more, the Kindle can get you book #2 in seconds.
Recently, an injury during a lacrosse practice left me on crutches [insert sad face], so I am developing a reading list for the next few weeks [insert happy face]. These are a few of the many books I have read over the past couple of months and feel obliged to recommend to you!
This is the first school assigned book that I am recommending for someone to read in their spare time, because it is so so good. This book takes place in California, where two families -- the Hamilton's and the Trasks -- live. Throughout the book there is a constantly changing plot that is very exciting for a book written in 1952. It also has some biblical references for all you Catholic school girls ;) Everyone can relate to this book because of the many different types of family relationships in it. I highly recommend it for people who enjoy exciting and shocking plots.
If you were a fan of TFIOS, like myself, you should buy this book right now. Unlike TFIOS, it is not a sad cancer book. Ezra can no longer play tennis due to a car accident, which changes his life. Not only is he unable to play tennis, which was everything to him, but also loses his friends, his girlfriend, and his seat at the lunch table. Then all of the sudden Cassidy Thorp shows up and changes Ezra's life. This book took me about four hours to read [pretty sure I only took one bathroom break]. I definitely recommend this book to people who are fans of John Green, or who enjoy a twist on a typical romance novel.
This book will make you cry like a baby [sorry]. I was in puddles when turning to the last page, but don't let my tears stop you. Kate decides to leave the warm, sunny California to go to college in Minnesota. She carries a secret [that will eventually catch up to her], but, for now, she is trying to enjoy college. Soon she meets Keller and the relationship they develop will change both their lives forever. This book is for anyone who loves a good, sad, romance novel, that manages to not be too corny.
To end on a happier note, this book kept me in constant laughter. David, a comedian, combines multiple essays to create a novel. Each essay, or topic, is a chapter ranging from making coffee without the water turning on to buying drugs in a mobile home in North Carolina. This book had me cracking up! There is at least one chapter everyone can relate to. David is able to recreate these relatable moments into comical literature. I recommend this novel if you are in the mood for a good laugh or pick-me-up.
